Cynthia Marcus was born in Corona, California. She grew up in Michigan, graduating from Rockford High School. Following graduation, she attended University of Michigan. She enlisted in the United States Air Force. After completing technical training as a Operating Room Technician, she was assigned to Homestead Air Force Base in Florida. After completing her service in the Air Force, Cynde used her GI Bill to finish school. She attended Grand Rapids Junior College. She earned her Associate Degree in nursing. As a Registered Nurse, she worked in the areas of Critical Care, Surgery and Rehabilitation. She was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army Reserve where she worked as both a part time soldier and full time establishing and directing the multistate HIV testing program for the Army Reserve. She attended Mercy College of Detroit and finished her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing at Ball State University.
While attending basic training for the United States Army Reserves, she met Ed Marcus. They later married. Ed is a dentist in Indianapolis. They have two children and enjoy scuba diving, traveling and canoeing.
Cynde graduated from Indiana University School of Law- Indianapolis. She worked for several years in an Indianapolis firm before leaving to start Marcus Law Firm in 2002. She is a litigator who tries cases in both the state and Federal courts. She appeals cases in the areas of Family Law and Medical Malpractice. Her military experience assists her in the representation of both servicemembers and former spouses of servicemembers with regard to divorce, custody and military retired pay. Her experience as a Registered Nurse is invaluable in explaining a client's injuries to a jury. She is able to differentiate between medical malpractice situations where a health care provider is negligent and where they are not. She has the ability to understand and communicate the many facets of a severe injury. As a Registered Nurse, the most important part of her job was advocating for her clients. As a lawyer, her ability to advocate for her patients/clients is taken one step further.
Cynde represents health care providers before the Indiana Health Professions Boards in actions against their licenses. Her unique perspective both as a nurse and as a lawyer allows her insight into the many pressures faced by health care providers.
She is active with local youth Hockey organizations. She volunteers as a Guardian ad Litem for youth in Hamilton County. She is a member of Sigma Theta, an honorary group of nurses nominated by their professors for service. She is an active member of the Indiana State Bar Association and serves on the Ethics committee. She is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association where she serves on the Lawyer Referral Service board. She is a member of the Hamilton County Bar Association. She is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association..
